about
Hi! My name is Katerina Stratigis and I am the founder of Heart Meets Mind Psychology. I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist who specializes in treating individuals struggling with eating disorders such as Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating Disorder. I also specialize in working with individuals struggling with Body Image, Disordered Eating, Perfectionism, Depression, and Anxiety.
Eating Disorders are very rarely only about the food and can show up in many different ways. Whether you are struggling with restricting, over exercising, emotional eating, or purging, it can be exhausting and isolating living life with an eating disorder. Working together we will explore and learn the underlying causes of your eating disorder and ways to create distance between your healthy self and eating disorder self.
You didn’t develop an Eating Disorder overnight, and recovery will not be overnight either. Although therapy and recovery can be a long difficult process, it can be filled with positivity and laughter. Recovery is possible. You don’t need to live with the eating disorder voice in your head telling you you aren’t good enough. Together I will guide you through the recovery process where you can reconnect with your true authentic self, discover your values, and find self-compassion.

At Heart Meets Mind, we offer therapy for individuals, both in person and virtually.
Therapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a trained mental health professional. Its primary purpose is to help people understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and to provide tools to navigate life’s challenges more effectively.
There are many specific styles of therapy such as CBT, ACT, and DBT. Although style of therapy is important, so is finding the correct fit for you. Read below to get a brief description of Evidence Based Treatments I use in sessions and what I can help you work through. Go schedule a free consultation with me to see if we would be a good fit!
COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)
CBT focuses on the interconnection between our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and psychology. Utilizing CBT in sessions will help you better understand how each of these four affect each other and how they affect the way you view yourself, the world, and others. In other words: it helps you identify your core beliefs and how that affects your life. In turn, you can then reframe your unhelpful thoughts that are holding you back.
ACCEPTANCE & COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT)
A common misconception of Acceptance is that when you accept something you have to like it. In reality, acceptance is when we relinquish the control that our emotions and thoughts can have over us. It’s the acknowledgement of helpful and unhelpful thoughts and emotions as information and not universal truths. By practicing acceptance one is better able to commit and engage with their true values. Together, you can identify the values that are important to you and create ways to move towards value focused goals.
DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT)
DBT is made up of four skill building foundations: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Mindfulness focuses on bringing your mind and body into the present moment without judgement. Distress Tolerance consists of skills used when in survival mode. Emotion Regulation, focuses on managing and coping with overwhelming feelings in a way where they don’t control your actions. Lastly, Interpersonal Effectiveness consists of communication skills, such as boundary setting, in order to maintain healthy relationships. In sessions, I will integrate and teach you these skills based on your needs.
EATING DISORDERS & DISORDERED EATING
When treating an eating disorder or disordering eating we will explore your emotional, psychological, and behavioral relationship with food and body image. Through evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, and ACT you will learn to challenge and reframe unhelpful thoughts about yourself and food, sit with discomfort, and engage with your values.
PERFECTIONISM
Perfectionism as a whole is categorized as setting unrealistic high standards and goals along with self-criticism and concerns of making mistakes. Perfectionism can manifest in many ways, such as, Anorexia, anxiety, and even procrastination. Stemming from the concern of making mistakes or failing, someone might procrastinate in completing a task or prevent them from engaging in activities. While working together, you can learn ways to challenge perfectionistic patterns and become comfortable being imperfect.
ANXIETY & LIFE STRESSORS
Anxiety is primarily a symptom of excessive fear and worry, especially when focusing on the future. While some level of stress and anxiety can be healthy, we don’t want anxiety hindering you from living your life. Whether your anxiety manifests as avoidance, procrastination, panic ect, together you can learn to utilize skills such as mindfulness and distress tolerance to cope with your anxiety.
DEPRESSION
Depression is the intense and persistent feeling of deep sadness, low energy, and loss of interests. Depression can manifest in many ways, such as difficulty getting out of bed, isolation, and difficulty concentrating. If you are struggling with depression, together we can work on behavioral activation and other hands-on coping skills to help you increase your mood and find hope in the future.
